Frequently Asked Questions

Please contact me through the Contact Me page if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Tele-therapy is therapy that is done using secure internet technology when the therapist and participant(s) are in different locations. In my practice, I prefer all clients use both audio and video when conducting tele-therapy, and I will do the same.

Tele-therapy is not right for everyone. It is helpful for those those who prefer not to commute to therapy appointments, those with limited transportation or mobility, and those who live and work in rural or remote areas.

Tele-therapy is not appropriate for people who:

- Do not have an internet connection sufficient to stream audio and video.

- Do not have a microphone or camera on their computer or phone for use in videoconferencing.

- Have insufficient familiarity with computer technology to participate in a tele-therapy session.

- Are experiencing, or have recently experienced, severe mental health episodes such as active suicidality, homicidality, intrusive thoughts about harming self or others, or psychosis.

The appropriateness of tele-therapy in your particular situation is part of what we will evaluate together during your initial Intake Appointment.

Although there are risks in using the internet for any confidential use, I take earnest precautions to protect our calls. All sessions are conducted using an encrypted connection and confidential link. I do not record sessions as a general practice, and I will never record our sessions without first obtaining explicit written and verbal consent from you.

Several studies have evaluated whether tele-therapy is as effective as in-person therapy. These studies typically have focused on common conditions like anxiety and depression, and using specific therapeutic approaches (CBT and related approaches being the most common.) Generally speaking, the findings have suggested that, at least for those conditions and approaches, tele-therapy performs about as well as in-person therapy on average, and the therapeutic alliance is generally comparable. While this does not ensure it will be as effective in your case, we will evaluate this when we begin, as part of our assessment of whether I am a good fit for your needs.

Licensure to provide therapy services is based on the location where the client is located. I am currently licensed in the California and Texas, so I am legally able to provide tele-therapy services as long as you are within one of those states. In addition, you must be in a private location where your conversation cannot be overheard, to protect your privacy, and you may not be driving or operating machinery while you are in therapy for your physical protection.

Currently, I reside in San Diego, California. In April 2026, I am relocating to Alicante, Spain and will continue providing tele-therapy remotely to people located in the U.S. states in which I am licensed to practice.
